STATUS AT LONGHAM LAKES
Scarce resident, sometimes breeding.
Records prior to 2010:
1. 1 singing from the Old Ash Bend, 11 November 2006.
2. 1 there on 31st January 2007.
3. 1 heard in the Marsh along the Stour on 11th March and 16th April 2009.
4. Heard several times here in October 2009.
Recent status:
2011: Disappeared after harsh winter. First recorded 11th and 18th October 2011.
2012: 1 singing on 7th January 2012 (James Philips) and on March 11th (Robin Trundle).
1 heard from The Marsh, 18th April 2012. Also heard on 30th April and 1st May, and present throughout winter 2012/13.
Breeding:
2 singing males in 2010.
0 singing males in 2010.
1 singing male in 2012
2 singing males in 2013.
3 singing males in April 2014.
2 singing males in May 2015.

Ringing:
2012: First ringed in September 2012 (2), with another in October, 3 in all.
2013: 3 ringed: June, October and November.
2014: 3 ringed, 1 in October and 2 in November.
Recoveries:
Remarkably, we have had 2 recoveries/controls:
Y315041, ringed at Titchfield Haven, Hampshire on 4th September 2011 was controlled at Longham on 28th September 2012 (47km movement) and again on 10th October 2012.
D765492, controlled at Longham in early November 2014 was ringed on 30th June 2014 at Wintersett Reservoir, Wakefield, West Yorkshire. So it had travelled over 300km! Pretty good for a fairly sedentary species!
