Woolly Mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius)

STATUS AT LONGHAM LAKES.

Almost certainly extinct, although some of the thickets on site are quite dense.

A tusk of this magnificent Pleistocene beast was found during excavations for gravel at Longham Lakes. The tusk might have been washed downriver to here from a corpse elsewhere, but it is a fitting reminder that megafauna once stalked these lands.
