Status at Longham Lakes

Common resident. Breeds on site and is seen on most visits.

Breeding:
2010: Minimum of 5 singing males on-site.
2012: At least 3 territories Samuel’s Wood, 20th April.
2014: 7 territories early April.
2016: 10 territories were located in woodland and mature scrub (Steve Morrison).

High numbers:
1. 40 on 18th September 2004 (post-juvenile dispersal).
2. 10 on 3rd September 2003 (post-juvenile dispersal).
3. 10 on 21st November 2004 (conceivably some migrants?).

Ringing:
2011: 25 ringed between May 1st and October 3rd, with 6 on May 1st.
2012: 38 ringed, of which 17 were in September.
2013: 12 ringed, 7 in September.
2014: 13 ringed, 6 in September.

Recoveries/Controls:
Y512567, a juvenile ringed at Longham on 30th July 2012 was controlled at Canford Park, Wimborne, Dorset on 18th February 2013 (13km NW, 203 days).
