Pochard (Aythya ferina)

STATUS AT LONGHAM LAKES

Fairly common winter visitor, especially in cold or freezing weather. Small numbers appear in the summer.

Colour-marked Recovery;
A Pochard from France colour-banded with a blue nasal saddle has been seen at Longham:
DB102520, a female, was originally captured on 4th June 2008 at Saint-Philbert-de-Grand-Lieu, Loire-Atlantique, France (about 400km south-west of Paris). It was controlled there on 29 May 2013.
It was spotted at Longham on 10th January 2015 (Martin Wood), 410km from its presumed breeding site.
