Status at Longham Lakes

Status hard to assess. Certainly resident and breeds on nearby River Stour, with regular records on-site; but probably also a passage migrant.

1. 3 on 5th November 2003.
2. 3 on 16th October 2005.
3. 3 on 10th January 2006.
4. 3 on 19th September 2009 (TT).
5. 4 on 19th and 5 over on 26th October 2009.
6. 3 on 15th October 2010.
7. 5 on 19th October 2010 (Ray Gleason).
3 on 23rd September 2016.
2 on 8th October 2016.

Breeding:
2008: A family party of a pair and 4 youngsters on 13th June.
2012: 1 seen by the Weir (present in breeding season), 28th May.
2014: A pair by the Weir, 15th April.
2016: Two territories were held along the River Stour, with one nest located at the base of a tree
trunk on the river bank at Samuel’s Wood (Steve Morrison).
