Sulphur-crested Cockatoo

Sulphur-crested Cockatoo, Bobbin Head, Sydney, 3/10/2012

Wednesday Oct 1st: Australia has garden birds, but not as we know them. For those who have never been to the Sydney area, these Sulphur-crested Cockatoos are everywhere, looking exotic, unreal and, bizarrely for a true native bird, out of place. They wander the suburbs in small groups, and then gather together at roosting time. Before settling down they yell at each other for minutes on end, every ear-splitting call sounding like an angry driver screaming at the top of their voice at somebody in another car.
